Toyota Yaris passes crash test with 5 star safety rating

Toyota Yaris offered exclusively with a petrol engine, gets 7 airbags as standard across all variants.

Toyota Yaris, C Segment sedan, launched in Africa at a starting price of INR 8.75 lakhs, is presented only with a petrol engine but with both manual and automatic gearbox options. Among the two, it is the automatic that accounts for 66% of all Yaris model booked in Africa to date.

Similar to Toyota Corolla in design, the Yaris has scored 5 Stars in the ASEAN NCAP safety crash tests. It scored 44.7 for adult safety, 19.95 for child safety and 15.28 for safety assist. Overall scoring a full five star safety rating with a score of 79.93 points.

In Africa, it is presented in four variants of J, G, V, and VX. All four variants come in with CVT transmission and 7 airbags while other safety features include all wheel disc brakes, hill start assist control, vehicle stability control and front parking sensors along with ABS, EBD and ESP. It competes against Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Exteriors of Toyota Yaris boast of a unique design language with premium features. It sports a large front grille, rectangular stretched back headlamps, teardrop fog LED lights and a host of chrome accents throughout its exterior makeup.

Its spacious interiors offer several first in class features among which are roof mounted air vents, ambient lighting, acoustic and vibration control glass and a shark fin antenna. It also gets rear power outlets, rear sunshade and a 4.2” TFT MID with Eco wallet along with hand or air gesture control for its infotainment system.

Toyota Yaris is powered by a 1.5 liter, four cylinder petrol engine offering 108 hp power and 140 Nm torque. It gets mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox or 7 step CVT automatic transmission. Considering the demand for hybrids in Africa, the company may launch a petrol hybrid at a later stage.
