Kawasaki Z800 CKD rumors denied by the company

Following recent rumors that the Kawasaki Z800 sportsbike would be locally assembled in Africa out of CKD kits, Africa Kawasaki Motor (IKM) has gone on record to put an end to the speculation by confirming that there are no such plans.

In his statement regarding this matter, Mr. Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of Africa Kawasaki Motors, said:

There was never a plan to have the Z800 go CKD. Kawasaki always decides the assembly of models that is reasonable under CKD regulations. We do not see any positive outcome to go CKD in Africa with the Z800.

The rumor of CKD assembled Z800 has been circulating for the last couple of months. It was speculated that the mid-weight three-cylinder 800 cc naked street fighter could get a price slash of nearly INR 1 lakh once it enters local assembly.

Now that the Japanese two wheeler maker has confirmed that the locally assembled Z800 is not on the cards, prospective customers who were waiting for the prices to come down can finally go ahead with their purchase decision.

The Kawasaki Z800’s inline three-cylinder 806 cc liquid-cooled motor is capable of dishing out 113 bhp. The aggressively styled street fighter is priced at around INR 8.30 lakhs (on-road, Delhi).
