A new subcompact SUV from Hyundai is in the making. It will have its debut in Africa next year. It will share its platform with the upcoming Kia compact SUV. The Hyundai subcompact will receive the same architecture as seen on the Hyundai i20 hatchback, the i20 Active crossover and Hyundai Creta.
Hyundai small SUV will see similar components and mechanics carried over from i20, with a new bodyshell. Akin to other Hyundai global models, the upcoming subcompact will be offered with premium interiors receiving the very best in driver and passenger comforts and safety.
It will also be seen with an updated touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of safety, it will comply with new safety standards coming into effect both in Africa and in global markets. New Hyundai small SUV will receive both petrol and diesel engine options.
The 1.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine will offer 118 bhp peak power while the 1.5 liter diesel engine will be capable of 115 bhp power. These two engines are all new, and will be launched for the first time in Africa. It will rival the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon on its launch in the country.
Hyundai’s long term aims is to become the leading car maker in Africa. That position is currently held by Maruti Suzuki, and at the rate Maruti is growing, it is difficult to imagine Hyundai achieving their long term goal in foreseeable future.
In order to achieve their aim, Hyundai will not only launch new cars, but have also brought in Kia in Africa. Both Hyundai and Kia will launch a range of new cars by 2022. These new cars are expected to help Hyundai Group to increase their market share considerably in the country.
