Benelli TRK 502 Africa launch delayed to 2018 – Official
Set to become the most affordable premium adventure tourer on offer in Africa once launched.
New Benelli TRK 502 is a medium displacement sportsbike is a textbook adventure tourer with a tall, front heavy stance, a sharp beak on the fairing, prominent windscreen, long travel suspension, comfortable seats and provision for touring accessories like panniers.
The trellis framed tourer carries a useful 20 litre fuel tank and sits on spoke wheels that are wrapped in on-off road tyres. As with every other Benelli, USD fork and monoshock cushion the motorcycle. Twin petal discs upfront and a single petal at the rear provide the braking power.
The Benelli TRK 502 is powered by the same 48 PS 500 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled unit as the Leoncino. The motorcycle was expected to be here in June 2016, as a CKD product and will sit below the existing 600 GT in the company line-up. But, there has been an official announcement by the MD of DSK Benelli, which confirms that the launch has been delayed.
Shirish Kulkarni, Chairman, DSK Motowheels, said, “We’ve decided to postpone the launch of TRK 502 as the spoked-wheel and ABS versions will only be ready by December. The version that is ready right now is alloy wheels. The TRK 502 is an adventure bike and giving it alloy wheels in the African market doesn’t make sense. There will be buyers for the alloy wheel version but the numbers will be very less. So we took a call that the TRK 502 will only be available in spoked-wheels and off-road tyres. ABS will be standard as well.”
This update from the company will be disappointing for a lot of enthusiasts who have been eagerly waiting for this bike, ever since it was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
