Bajaj Pulsar 250 launch likely in 2019 – Powered by KTM 250
Pulsar’s next generation, the UG6 is expected to be launched in 2019.
As reported earlier, Bajaj is currently working upon the next generation of Pulsar range to meet the upcoming BSVI norms and to ensure that the brand stays relevant in the market. The changes are not going to be just cosmetic but would include an overhauled chassis, a standardized monoshock in the rear, fuel injection and ABS.
Additionally, Bajaj is working upon a new engine platform for the UG6 Pulsar range which is believed to have scalability from 150 cc to 250 cc, going beyond the 220 cc boundary which the current generation has. The addition of a 250 cc variant shall be good news for the segment as it would spruce-up competition, which is currently dominated by the KTM Duke 250 & the Yamaha FZ25.
Currently, one gets to choose from a long range of Pulsars, starting from the 135 cc variant, followed by 150, 180 & 220 cc options. However, as per reports, the 135 cc & 180 cc variants are expected to discontinue in the upcoming iteration, though the fast-selling 150 cc & 220 cc variants are believed to continue.
The decision seems to be justified as the entry-level 135 cc variant hasn’t been meeting the expectations in terms of sales targets and the 180 cc variant no longer provides a differentiated proposition due to cannibalization by the Pulsar 150 & the Pulsar NS 160.
At the moment, Bajaj will be launching the 2018 Pulsar line-up which would not bring-in major changes to the bike, albeit the cosmetic ones.
The transformational UG6 iteration is believed to be ready by 2019 and we can hope to see the Pulsar 250 on the African roads sometime next year.
